EuroHockey Club Cup Quarter-Final
Mannheimer HC 0 UHC Hamburg 1
The opening quarter-final of the EuroHockey Club Cup was a tight affair with UHC Hamburg coming out on top against German rivals, Mannheimer in front of an enthusiastic audience of schoolchildren at Thursday lunchtime at Surbiton HC.
The atmosphere was perfect with the sun shining to greet the Bundesliga rivals, Germany having gained a second team in the top flight tournament at the expense of England after the qualification table was recalculated at the end of last season.
The only goal came in the 12th minute, Eileen Hoffman’s shot from the right of the circle earning Hamburg a semi-final match-up with AH&BC Amsterdam.
Mannheimer’s main threat came from three penalty corners which they failed to convert and with just under six minutes remaining, Mannheimer fielded a kicking back, but Hamburg survived the subsequent attacking onslaught to book their place in the final four.
