EuroHockey Club Cup Semi-Final
‘s-Hertogenbosch 3 Club Campo De Madrid 1
Cup holders, ‘s-Hertogenbosch ensured that the 2018 EuroHockey Club Cup Final would be a repeat of the 2017 final versus UHC Hamburg with a 3-1 win over Club Campo De Madrid.
‘s-Hertogenbosch took the lead in the sixth minute, Fréderique Matla crossing from the left for Lieke Hulsen to deflect the ball in the goal at the right post.
‘s-Hertogenbosch still led 1-0 at half time and were able to double their advantage from the penalty spot, Ireen van der Assem converting in the 38th minute.
Three minutes later, it was Campo’s turn to receive a penalty stroke, Rebecca Grote slotting the ball into the top left corner to give the Spanish side hope of a comeback.
In the 43rd minute, those hopes were ended, Marlies Verbruggen scoring from open play to restore ‘s-Hertogenbosch’s two goal advantage.
There was late drama when ‘s-Hertogenbosch’s Pleunke van der Plas was shown a yellow card. Campo decided to try and take advantage of the powerplay by replacing their goalkeeper with a kicking back, Campo’s captain, Rocio Gutierrez Sierra donning the bib. Campo failed to make a breakthrough and will have to settle for a place in the bronze medal match against AH&BC Amsterdam.
