EuroHockey Club Cup Semi-Final

AH&BC Amsterdam 1 UHC Hamburg 1 (Hamburg won 5-4 in shootout)

For the second season running, UHC Hamburg beat AH&BC Amsterdam in the EuroHockey Club Cup semi-finals on a shootout. Hamburg took the lead in the 13th minute, Amsterdam goalkeeper, Anne Veenendaal wrong footed by a deflection after Charlotte van Bodegom shot at goal.

Amsterdam came close to equalising in the 27th minute when Lauren Stam passed to Kitty van Male at the left post, only for the ball to go wide.

Hamburg held on to the lead until the 51st minute when they failed to clear an Amsterdam attack, Charlotte Vega taking advantage to equalise. Neither side could find the winner in the remaining minutes so the spectators were entertained by a shootout on an increasingly warm day.

Roda Müller-Wieland smashed the first attempt into the netting as Hamburg went first. Amsterdam replied with Maria Verschoor finding the backboard. Hannah Seifert restored Hamburg’s lead in the same manner, Marijn Veen lobbing the ball into the net to make the score 2-2.

Marie Mävers put Hamburg ahead at 3-2 via the backboard, with Lauren Stam forcing a save but unable to score for Amsterdam. Jana Teschke extended Hamburg’s lead once again via the backboard, Eva de Goede scoring from the edge of the circle with a shot into the netting to reduce the deficit at 4-3.

Katharina Frank had the chance to win it for Hamburg but could only shoot past the right post, Felice Albers scoring to force sudden death.

Amsterdam went first in sudden death, Verschoor blasting the ball over the bar, allowing Mävers to secure a 5-4 win and a place in the final to the players and their supporters’ delight.
