Roelant Oltmans Steps Away From Pakistan Head Coach Role

Roelant Oltmans (64) steps down as national coach of the Pakistan men. That is what various Pakistani media report . The Dutch coach thinks that the circumstances are insufficient to be able to perform well with the national team. Oltmans had only been coach of the Asian country since the beginning of this year and had a contract up to and including the 2020 Games in Tokyo.

Oltmans informed the Pakistani hockey association in his resignation letter that he is fully responsible for the performance of the Pakistani team. ‘But I feel that the current circumstances do not create an environment in which we can get the best out of the team,’ says Oltmans, who also does not feel that the Pakistani hockey association can change those circumstances.

Praise for progress

Oltmans was appointed to let the Pakistani hockey team speak a word in international hockey. At the Champions Trophy in Breda, in June of this year, Pakistan became sixth and last, but Oltmans and his men are praising the progression in the game . During the recently held Asian Games, which qualified for the Olympics, Oltmans’ team was eliminated in the semifinal by the later winner Japan.
