Bowdon HC have swooped beneath the radar and confirmed , what is probably, the signing of the year and a major boost in their bid for promotion.
The former (many feel should still be) England and GB international, Simon Egerton rejoins the club after a 4 year stint playing professional hockey for HC Rotterdam in The Netherlands.
Egerton has been an integral part of the success of the club during his spell in the Hoofdklasse. The prolific penalty corner specialist netted no less than 75 goals during his spell in the Netherlands, with more, I’m certain, to follow as Simon will be rejoining Rotterdam in March to compete in the 2nd half of the Dutch season after the extended winter break to accommodate the World Cup and Pro League
‘The long term plan was always to finish my hockey at Bowdon’ says Egerton who came through the junior ranks at Bowdon. ‘I’ve been lucky in that HC Rotterdam have been flying me in and out to play games at the weekends and I’ve been able to train with Bowdon on a Tuesday. I know what this squad is about and we have big aspirations, I can’t wait to put on the red and black shirt again.‘
Captain Sam Cooke expressed his delight at the news, ‘We can’t wait to welcome Simon back to Bowdon, he’s proven himself at the highest level and scored goals everywhere he has played; whether it be in English Premier League, the Dutch competition or further afield. I know that Bowdon has a special place in his heart and he can’t wait to get going. The intensity at which he plays and trains is something that will lift this group to a new level.’
