Role: Men’s Head Coach – Performance Squad (1st & 2nd Team)
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced, talented and enthusiastic hockey coach to join Blackheath & Elthamians HC as the Men’s 1st Team Head Coach. We are Officially The Oldest Hockey Club in The World and the current holders of the England Hockey Trophy 2017. After 2 successful years at the helm our HC Calum Giles is stepping down to focus on his young family and his Hockey Professional role at Eltham College but will remain as a consultant for our Junior Section.
Blackheath & Elthamians M1’s play in the South Premier Div 2 but have strong ambition to achieve greater success. The primary focus will be the Men’s Performance Squad (1st & 2nd XI). They are a young, group that relishes the chance to work with an inspirational coach or player coach who is keen to join the BEHC family and be part of the clubs ambitious plans.
In the past 6 years the team has risen from Kent/Sussex Division 2 to a mid table finish in their first season back in the South Premier League. Couple this with consecutive appearances in the EH National Trophy Final 2016 & 2017 (winning it this year) and this role presents an excellent opportunity for the successful candidate to impart their skill, knowledge and passion on the squad and take the team to the next level. A second astroturf pitch and new clubhouse is being constructed over the forthcoming season.
The successful applicant should have experience in:
(i) Leading the short, medium and long term planning for a performance squad
(ii) Leading the delivery of well planned training sessions, match briefings and analysis sessions
(iii) Coaching on match days
(iv) Working with and developing Junior & Academy players
Other roles will include:
(i) Directing the squad’s Assistant coaches and liaising, as appropriate, with Captain, Manager & Performance Director & any other specialists required.
(ii) Liaising with the club’s Performance Director to determine selection for the club’s top teams
(iii) Liaising with the Director of Hockey and the Head of the Junior section to ensure a clearly defined pathway for junior player progression.
Experience of coaching to a high standard with ideally a Level 2 or England Hockey Coach Qualification or relevant experience.
Desirable to be on the Advanced Coach Programme or demonstrate the passion to develop their coaching.
Excellent knowledge of the game with outstanding organisational, leadership and man management skills with strong ideas plus an ambitious mind-set
Coaches and player/coaches welcomed.
Available to attend all M1’s matches: League, Cup and pre-season.
Applicants are advised that the M1s currently train on a Tuesday and Thursday evening but this can be discussed. All home matches played at College Meadow Astro, London Marathon Sports Ground @ Eltham College.
The role will begin with the 8 summer league fixtures at Lee Valley that serves as an excellent base for our preseason and then continue with a carefully planned full preseason programme into the main league season and cup competition.
BEHC welcomes all applicants. This is a paid role and the remuneration package will be dependent on your experience and qualifications and subject to an agreed timetable.
Additional remunerated coaching may be available at Eltham College & in other areas of the club if desired.
