Unbeaten teams look to book spots in medal rounds

GOLD COAST – A handful of unbeaten teams will look to maintain their perfect records on day four at the Gold Coast Hockey Centre on Sunday 8 April.

England‘s women will open the day’s proceedings against India, with a win all but guaranteeing the world’s No.2 side a spot in the medal rounds.

Susannah TOWNSEND (ENG) has been one of the stand-out players of GC2018 so far, with her mix of speed, skill and strength making her one to watch out for.

The New Zealand women have cruised through their first two games of GC2018, accounting for Scotland 6-1 and Ghana 12-0. They take on Canada, who should provide a tougher test for the Black Sticks.

On the men’s side of the draw, a rampant England meet a Pakistan side that has taken a point from each of their two Pool B matches so far.

Pakistan captain Muhammad RIZWAN said his side is still learning as “there are lots of new guys, and we’ve only been with our coach for two-and-a-half-weeks.”

New Zealand will play South Africa in a must-win encounter for the 2017 Africa Cup champions.

South African coach Mark HOPKINS said his team needed to improve on their performance against Australia (4-0 defeat on Saturday 7 April) by “being better in key moments” against New Zealand.

In the evening session, India play Wales, and the hosts Australia lock horns with Scotland.
