Ben Read is incredibly pleased with the quantity and calibre of athletes who put their hand up for selection in the Tassie Tigers squad. “We have selected a nicely balanced squad in terms of combining youth and experience. We have players who have played over 100 games for the Tigers and been to multiple Olympic Games, as well as players who will be making their debut this year who have their sights set on future Olympics.”

Ben Read highlights local Tasmanian competitions: “We have picked a large portion of our squad from the local Premier League which is a testament to the strength of the competition here in Hobart.”

“Selection for each match will be difficult and I look forward to seeing each player put their best foot forward throughout the preparation.”

He finished with a goal for the squad. “It is always difficult to predict outcomes at this level of competition, however a goal of ours must be to ensure we finish in the top 4 and get to play the home finals series.”

Susan Brooks and Tim Strapp are delighted to announce the strongest Tigers squad to date, sure to leave a mark on the national Hockey One stage this year.

Brooks said “The Tassie Tigers have been in the National League for a couple of years, we are now ready to show the nation what we can do. Some quality imports from overseas combined with exciting local Tasmanian talent should see us be very competitive in this year’s league.”

The squad includes 3 British Olympians and a Dutch star player who will join the side in preparation for the season this September.

Brooks discusses a vital piece of the performance pathway “the Development Squad of up-and-coming future Tigers is a new addition to the program this year and something I am really excited about. This is part of our approach to develop lour local talent and build a strong future for female Hockey in Tasmania.”

“We are hoping the community will get behind the Hockey One League this year. Support from the community is vital and there are 3 key home fixtures we need to see the fans at! Plus the finals series which we plan to make here in Hobart.”

After playing his first season as part of the Tigers last year, Lachlan Rogers is keen to impress again in 2024. “I look forward to testing myself against the best players in Australia and developing my brand of Hockey alongside people like Josh Beltz, Eddie Ockenden and Jack Welch.”
