In a sometimes strange game for third place at this year’s Final4, Harvestehuder THC beat Mannheimer HC 2:4. The Hamburgers almost seem to give up a 0:2 lead when Mannheim equalizes 2:2. In the end, Harvestehude remains sovereign. The game report:
Mannheimer HC – Harvestehuder THC 2:4 (0:2)
In the pouring rain, there was a novelty on this final Sunday in Final4 2022: Unlike in previous years, the men played a game for third place. The winner of this game qualifies for next season’s Euro Hockey League. Mannheim was clearly inferior to the Hamburger Polo Club in the semifinals, while the Harvestehuder THC had very unluckily lost its game against Rot-Weiss Köln.

Mannheim, who at that point had still not scored a goal this weekend, found it difficult to get through the Hamburg defense in the next few minutes (18′). Instead, Harvestehude took a penalty corner but Paul Glander missed the goal (21′). Mannheim only posed a real threat five minutes before the end of the period: Peillat had taken a penalty corner to the left, but Jossip Anzeneder was unable to take advantage of the shot. Even two shot chances from the air were not enough for Anton Brinckmann to overcome (25′). Only now did Mannheim really get going, but was not able to create another good opportunity. Almost out of nowhere, Harvestehude had another chance instead, Anton Pöhling dribbled into the circle from the left and pulled away, Ntuli held his bat in front of the goal and deflected from the goal (27′) and was rewarded with this goal for his strong performance so far.

Then HTHC had a chance from a corner, Anton Pöhling shot and, just like in the 2-0 win, Nqobile Mansuet Ntuli held the bat in the ball – the second goal for Ntuli and the third for Harvestehuder THC (47th). As a result, nothing went right for Mannheim again, because Anzeneder delivered the ball in the forehand of Harvestehuder THC, Hamburg countered on the right side and Maximilian Keim entered the scorer list, leading his team 4:2 brought (53). The preliminary decision in this game, because Mannheim’s short-term comeback was not enough to defeat Harvestehude. Mannheim did get into the last third of the field a few more times, but Hamburg defended their own circle confidently. We never really got into it […] this time it just wasn’t our game.” Jan Philipp Fischer , Mannheimer Hc
Harvestehude thus qualifies for the Euro Hockey League next season and wins the game for third place.
