Mannheimer HC completes the women’s field of participants for the Final4 in Bonn. With a well-deserved 5:1 (1:0) win over Munich SC, you make everything clear this Sunday. The game report:
MANNHEIMER HC – MUNICH SC 5: 1 (1: 0)
After the surprising success of the guests of the Munich SC, the third and decisive game of this quarter-final series was played today. The Mannheim women were only able to save themselves in the shootout yesterday shortly before the end, but Munich kept their nerve and secured victory. Today’s winner goes to the Final4 in Bonn. Anything other than the Final4 qualification would be a disappointment for Mannheim – for Munich, on the other hand, a small sensation and the culmination of the strong last few weeks.
In the first quarter, the Mannheim women were much better in the game, just like yesterday, and took the game directly into their own hands. Pressing hard, they tried to pressure the visitors’ defense and force mistakes – indeed, Munich struggled to break free, but Mannheim were unable to create any compelling chances either. If you came in front of the Munich goal, goalkeeper Selina Müller was there.
Immediately after the start of the second quarter, the hosts took their first penalty corner. Mannheim had big problems yesterday and couldn’t convert a few corners – it was only shortly before the end that they scored the all-important equalizer after a penalty corner. But today things went better, because Sonja Zimmermann converted a direct shot to lead 1:0 (20th, KE).
Mannheim was also successful in the third quarter with a penalty corner: Florencia Habif was able to hold her racquet in the middle of the goal to take the shot on goal and thus make it 2-0 (33′, KE). As bad as the result was yesterday, the Mannheim women presented themselves all the more effectively today after penalty corners. Even towards the end of the quarter, after Mannheim had the game safely in their own hands, the hosts were once again able to celebrate a direct shot from Stine Kurz (44′, KE).
It was only eleven minutes before the end that things went better for the guests when they were able to score the 3-1 goal for their team after a penalty corner by Michelle Strobel (49′, KE). Shortly thereafter, Lucina van der Heyde got the chance to decide the game for Mannheim with a seven-metre throw. After she had already scored yesterday, however, she failed today due to Selina Müller (51st). Shortly before the final whistle, when Munich had already taken the goalkeeper off the field, Stine Kurz scored the 4:1, again with a penalty corner (59′, KE). A minute later, Verena Neumann scored the final score of 5:1 into the guests’ empty goal (60′).
With this, Mannheim moves safely into the Final4 in Bonn next weekend. There you will meet the women of Harvestehuder THC, who prevailed against Rot-Weiss Köln (June 4th).
