Jhansi, 7th July: Day 7 of the 2nd Hockey India Junior Women and Men North Zone Championship 2024, held in Jhansi, featured both Semi-Final matches of the men’s and women’s competition. Hockey Haryana and Uttar Pradesh Hockey won their respective bouts to find themselves in the Finals while Hockey Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh triumphed in the men’s Semi-Finals.
Hockey Haryana down Hockey Chandigarh to secure a spot in the Final
In the first Semi-Final of the women’s contest, Hockey Haryana defeated Hockey Chandigarh, 6-1 to seal their place in the finals. Ritika (12’, 50’) and Ravina (24’, 29’) were the top scorers for Haryana with important braces, while Seema (9’) and Priyanka (30’) also made vital contributions. Tamanna (42′) scored the only goal for Hockey Chandigarh.
Uttar Pradesh Hockey secures a resounding victory against Delhi Hockey to enter the Final
In the second women’s Semi-Final, Uttar Pradesh Hockey registered a comprehensive 6-0 victory against Delhi Hockey. Uttar Pradesh Hockey’s performance was powered by a potent hat-trick from Purnima Yadav (24’, 44’, 55’). Furthermore, Manisha Patel (19’), Captain Vandana Patel (41’) and Madhu (58’) also found the back of the net against Delhi Hockey.
Hockey Chandigarh edges past Hockey Haryana in shootout to emerge as finalists
In the first Semi-Final of the men’s fixtures, Hockey Haryana were defeated by Hockey Chandigarh. Following a 1-1 deadlock at full-time, Hockey Chandigarh emerged victorious in the ensuing shoot out, 5-4. Earlier in the game, Sukhpreet Singh (34’) gave Hockey Chandigarh the lead before Happy (47’) pulled back the equaliser for Hockey Haryana. Misbah Khan, Rishav, and Sukhmanpreet Singh scored in the shootout for Chandigarh while Goalkeeper Gaurav Kumar did well to deny Hockey Haryana.
Uttar Pradesh Hockey Dominates Hockey Punjab in Semi-Final victory
The final encounter of the day that featured the second Semi-Final of the men’s fixtures saw Uttar Pradesh Hockey overcome Hockey Punjab, 6-0. Yet again, Ujjwal Pal (20’, 47’) and Ashu Maurya (14’, 36’) were at the centre of the action as both of them scored two goals each. Mohd Zaid Khan (7’) and Ajeet Yadav (8’) chipped in early goals, too, to ensure a comfortable victory for Uttar Pradesh Hockey.
