Here are some of the special activities undertaken around our region to celebrate the Olympic Ideals in Olympic Year.
Papua New Guinea The PNG Olympic Committee hosted an annual Olympic Day event at the Taurama Aquatic Centre, Port Moresby. The aim of the event was to give an opportunity for people to be able to connect and gather together, be active, learn about Olympic Values and discuver new sports.
Hockey was invited as an Olympic Sport and the Papua New Guinea Hockey Federation sent two of their Hook in4Health staff, Hussein Lowah and Gabriella Kisapai, to run hockey activities. (See cover picture)
Australia Hockey Australia created a reel of their Kooburras and Hockeyroos who are off to Paris as an inspiration to all their followers to get involved in hockey ( https//www.hockey.org.au/play)
New Zealand The Black Sticks Men’s Team who ar off to the Olympics in Paris were in camp in the Hawkes Bay where they celebrated Olympic day with the local community demonstrating hockey skills
Solomon Islands Join together with other Team Up sports at the Solomon Islands Institute of Sport to create a ‘Let’s Move and Celebrate’ with generic games that involved teamwork and moving together to achieve goals.
Vanuatu The Hook in4 Health Team went out to the North Efate community of La Mine where they encouraged the Mamas to ‘Be Active’ with a series of hockey skills, that occured beside the main road.
