ISLAMABAD: Development and revival of national sport hockey will be the top priority of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP) under which numerous activities will be held after Eid.

These views were expressed by Olympian Khawaja Junaid after meeting with the Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme Rana Mashood Ahmed in Islamabad Friday.

“I am delighted to share with you that under the PM’s directions, development and revival of hockey has been kept as the top priority. In a meeting with Rana Mashood, a plan was discussed to raise standard of the game at different levels. The meeting focused on the revival of hockey in Pakistan and the broader engagement of youth through sports initiatives,” Khawaja Junaid said while taking to ‘The News’.

During the meeting, the chairman underscored the government’s commitment to revitalise hockey, highlighting the ongoing efforts in this regard. It was announced that Pakistan is gearing up for the South Asian Games, with a keen focus on showcasing the country’s talent on the international stage.

Furthermore, it was disclosed that talented individuals identified through the Prime Minister’s Talent Hunt Programme will have the opportunity to participate in the upcoming National Games, scheduled to be held later this year. These selected athletes will undergo rigorous training to hone their skills and represent Pakistan with excellence.

The PMYP chairman emphasized the pivotal role of sports in positively engaging the youth of Pakistan, highlighting its potential to foster unity, discipline, and national pride. He reiterated the government’s unwavering support for initiatives aimed at harnessing the country’s sporting talent and promoting a culture of athleticism and camaraderie.
