The second match on Pitch 1 catered for great entertainment as well, with no less than 8 goals scored in an encounter that saw the Netherlands (men) overcome South Africa (5-3). HRH King Willem-Alexander and HRH Queen Máxima of the Netherlands were in attendance as well.FIH President Tayyab Ikram said: “It was a true honour to welcome HRH the King and the Queen of Belgium and the Netherlands today. Their support for sports in general and hockey in particular means a lot to us and the development of hockey globally. On behalf of FIH, I’ve expressed our most sincere gratitude to them. Their attendance is an additional sign of the position of hockey in the countries that will co-host the FIH Hockey World Cup – a combined event, women and men – in 2 year time!”.
The whole day truly showcased hockey at its best on the field of play. “I’d like to congratulate the athletes who, through their incredible talent and attitude, have ensured the best promotion for hockey!”, added the FIH President.
