Canada: Junior CanAm Indoor Series plays March 16-17 in Philadelphia

U19 Men’s Indoor Team represents in annual series vs USA

Field Hockey Canada is thrilled to be sending a U19 Men’s Indoor Team to Philadelphia to take on the USA Men’s U19 Indoor Team in the annual CanAm series.

Field Hockey Canada and USA Field Hockey Indoor Programs will compete in the annual CanAm Indoor Series on March 16 and 17 at the Philly Sports Center in Newton, Pennsylvania. This year it was decided by both nations that because of the conflict with the Indoor Pan American Cups, the 2024 edition will feature the U19 boys only and that it will not be a Pan American Hockey Federation (PAHF) sanctioned event.

CANAM SCHEDULE

The CanAm Indoor Series resumed in 2022 after taking a five-year hiatus. This annual event features both the junior and senior teams for both men and women, with the host and location alternating each year between Canada and the United States.

For Field Hockey Canada, this is an opportunity to continue to build their indoor pipeline of exciting young players. Sean Pereira, head coach of the team, said that this is crucial international experience for a group of young men in their hockey careers.

“This squad is a passionate, smart and talented bunch looking to make their mark in international competition. The team is a good mix of debutants and experience, some of which are looking towards the Canadian Junior national outdoor team selection, as well.”

These athletes have been training with their regional NextGen hubs as well as in their club environments. Pereira said that he expects top level competition against a strong U19 USA team, but is excited to see his athletes rise to the occasion.

“We are looking to the experience of Navdip, Gurwinder,Nishan, Tom and Kulshan. they are eagerly backed up by the refreshing talent of Josiah, Fletcher, Jagman, Anish, Aidan, Chris and the reliable Aaron is our last line of defense,” he said. “The USA are not an easy team to play but our athletes are excited and looking forward to proving themselves.”

Susan Ahrens, CEO of Field Hockey Canada, said she’s excited to see these athletes perform on the international stage and knows they will represent Canada with pride and competitive spirit.

“These athletes have shown hard work and dedication to earn this opportunity to represent Canada on the international stage, and I have no doubt they will rise to the challenge and compete with passion and determination, and sportsmanship,” she said. “We’ll be watching and following from across the country, and we are excited to see this next generation of superstars in Canadian jerseys.”
