Malaysia: Women’s Team Record Second Victory

The second match of the round robin, Women’s Field Hockey event, Cambodia SEA Games 2023 which took place today at Morodok Techo National Stadium, saw the National Women’s Team continue to collect three points after defeating Singapore, 4-1.

The Head Coach of the National Women’s Squad, Mohd Nasihin Nubli Ibrahim, described his players as successfully following all the tactics and planning that had been arranged for the team in recording their second victory today despite the weaknesses and mistakes that occurred in the match.

“Today’s match, there were some technical weaknesses as well as a lack of seriousness at the beginning of the game. However, they managed to overcome the problem and this is a good lesson for many young players in the country.

“We had a lot of penalty corner advantages that didn’t translate into goals and this was due to technical errors by the players and several attempts were saved by the opposing goalkeeper who also played well.

“For the meeting with Thailand tomorrow, we hope that the players will use the time available for the energy recovery process before going down to meet Thailand. We will still look for victory tomorrow and demand the players to give their best,” he explained.

In the match that took place today, Nuramirah Shakirah Zulkifli scored two personal goals starting with a field move in the 34th minute followed by another field move goal which was also the winning goal in the 49th minute.

Two more goals scored by the Malaysian team today as a result of Wan Norfaiezah Md Saiuti’s opening goal through a field goal in the ninth minute followed by a penalty corner goal completed by Khairunnisa Ayuni Mohd Sharuddin in the 37th minute.

Tomorrow (Saturday – May 13) the National Women’s Team will play against Thailand at 11:00 am, Malaysian time.
