12 hockey squad players in the national men’s and women’s halls ready to take on Malaysia’s challenge at the 2023 SEA Games

The 2023 SEA Games in Phnom Penh, Cambodia will officially open the curtain on May 5 to 17, 2023 with the In-Hall Hockey Event (Men and Women) to be contested on May 1 to 7, 2023 at Dinosaur Park Hall, Chroy Changvar, Cambodia.

After completing the Friendship Match Tour Series in Perth Australia on April 9 to 19 and ending the final training session yesterday, before leaving for Cambodia, tomorrow (April 29 – Saturday), 12 players of the National Men’s and Women’s Hockey Team are now ready to carry the Malaysian fight torch at the bi-annual Games.

Through the match schedule that has been released, the National Women’s Hockey Squad will open the curtain on the match against Singapore on Monday (1 May) at 3:15 pm (Malaysian time) while the Men’s Team will meet the host, Cambodia, at 7:00 pm (Malaysian time) on the same day.

Head Coach of the Hockey Squad in the Men’s Hall of the country, Mohd Hanip Che Halim explained that with a short training session, the players who have been selected are those who understand the concept of hockey game in the hall quickly and have the skills to make quick decisions.

“The players who have been selected are also individuals who have the skills to play hockey in the high hall as all are aware, the hockey tournament in the hall is more focused on speed and speed including in decision making.

“For the final preparation before we leave, the players have undergone training sessions to correct and correct all the weaknesses we have identified during the recent Australian Tour Series.

“With a few days remaining, each player and the team as a whole have focused on sharpening the set-play and individual skills.

“I hope that every player will be able to maintain the momentum of the game well in the real action while continuing to maintain the fighting spirit and high team spirit in each of them, so that the mission to preserve the gold medal won in the last edition can be realized,” he explained.

While Women’s Head Coach Mohd Badrul Hisham Osman also shared, the selection of 12 players to take on an important mission in Cambodia is based on the fitness level of the players themselves, their maturity in the game as well as the spirit of cooperation as a team.

 

“The players who have been selected are those who can accept and understand every tactical that we line up coaching for the team and they are also able to follow every plan that has been drawn up.

“The team’s preparation has now reached 100% and the length of time we have after returning to training from the recent Eid al-Fitr holiday, we have used to fix every weakness seen during the last Australian Friendship Tour Series.

“Every advantage and strength of the team has us streamlining as best we can to bring to the real tournament.

“Our team also expressed hope of returning to Malaysia with a gold medal and each of us is aware of the mission. We also ask all hockey fans in Malaysia to pray for the success of the Hockey Team in the Dewan Negara so that the dream of winning the gold medal is fulfilled,” he said.
