Saturday, February 14: The sudden cold snap impacted the EY Hockey League Division 1 & 2, with only three games across both leagues surviving the weather.
In the Men’s EYHL, Avoca’s resurgence continued as they made it two topflight wins from two in 2026 with a narrow win over YMCA. Guy Sarratt put Avoca ahead in the first quarter, but Ian Perrott brought YMCA level in the final quarter. A penalty stroke for Avoca proved the difference maker as Shane O’Donoghue kept his cool to secure the three points for his side.
In the Women’s EYHL2, Monkstown came from a goal down to beat a UCC side that had enjoyed a perfect start up until that point. Sophie Naughton and Chloe Watkins both scored from second-half penalty corners to cancel out Micaela Sanderson’s first quarter goal. And Cork Harlequins got their first win of the season, beating Trinity Ladies. Quins lead thanks to a Maya Dullea brace, and survived a late Trinity surge to claim their win.
In the Men’s EYHL2, Clontarf built on their first win last week to maintain their pressure on the top sides with a win over fellow Leinster side Bray. Bray broke the deadlock but four unanswered goals for Clontarf including a brace from captain Tim Cullen put the game out of reach.
The action continues tomorrow, with two EYHL Women’s games taking place. Pegasus host Railway Union at The Dub, while Portadown take on Pembroke Wanderers at Edenvilla.
