england week 10 review of the england hockey league 6746cbf57aaf5 - England: Week 10 Review of the England Hockey League - Barnes returned to winning ways with a 3-0 victory over Harleston Magpies to remain at the top of Women’s Division One South Their win saw them extend their lead to two points over Guildford who replaced Surbiton 2s in second place after a 3-2 away win. A closely contested battle saw both sides level at 2-2 at the half time break but Guildford’s Kerryn Swanepoel’s field goal in the 66th minute gave the visitors all 3 points. Southgate also won 3-2 away, after trailing 2-1 at half time Charlotte Childs rescued 3 pts with a field goal with five minutes remaining.  Sevenoaks visit Barnes and Southgate travel to Guildford as both teams face the top two on the final weekend of the first half of the season. Elsewhere Exeter University secured a 2-1 win over struggling Bristol Firebrands with goals from Charlotte Graham & Emma Williamson in the 18th and 49 minutes of the game. Slough also picked up a valuable three points, their 1-0 win over Wimbledon 2s earning Slough’s second win of the season, giving them a two-point advantage over ninth placed Bristol Firebrands with the teams due to meet in Bristol this weekend.

Two goals from Alex Chihota and one for Francois Vaysse-Baird gave them a comfortable 3-0 win. It was less comfortable for second placed Brooklands MU who came from two down to beat Olton & West Warwicks, 3-2 with Stefan Ray-Hills netting the winner, his second goal of the game, with just a minute left on the clock. Third placed Nottingham University trailed 1-0 at Stourport at half time but powered back with five goals in a 17 minute period, including braces for Edward Brice and Zak Buck, to win 5-1. A last minute penalty stroke conversion by Ghazanfar Ali sealed a super second half comeback for Deeside Ramblers from 3-0 down to 3-3 against Durham University. Lindum will be buoyed by a 3-2 win at Harborne, their first win of the season and moves them within five points of safety.

The teams were level and unbeaten going into the game which was decided by a solitary goal from Loughborough’s Ellis Robson on 50 minutes. Behind the top two Nottingham University’s good run continued as they won 5-2 against Deeside Ramblers with Tim Ehret scoring two of their goals. A late Kristofer Watt corner decided the University clash between Durham and Birmingham in Durham’s favour, 3-2. The bottom two teams both lost out at home in high scoring games. Lindum went down 5-3 to Olton & West Warwicks and in a Midlands derby that stretches back to the formation of leagues, Harborne won 6-4 at Stourport. Tom Thorne netted a hat-trick for Harborne and Stourport’s Si Claris scored all four of his team’s goals.

Si Claris twice put Stourport in front but Brooklands Nick Hale scored with four minutes to go to win the game. Loughborough Students are in second with an inferior goal difference. They also didn’t find it easy going at Deeside Ramblers where the evergreen Ghazanfar Ali scored twice to level things up a 2-2. It stayed that way until the last seven minutes when the Students struck twice, including a second for Montgomery Neave to win it 4-2. Nottingham University are up to third after a 1-0 win at Harborne. Olotn & West Warwicks and Durham University drew 2-2 whilst Lindum remain second bottom after their 3-1 reverse at Birmingham University.
