england premier division review 12th april 67fd0178dd394 - England: Premier Division Review - 12th April - There was a shock result in Women’s Pool B where Loughborough Students won 4-3 at champions Surbiton to throw the pool wide open. Ellie Mackenzie and Holly Payne put Surbiton 2-0 up in the first quarter and all looked to be going to form. However, Olivia Breed and Mhairi Low pulled it back to 2-2 at the break. Sophie Hamilton converted a corner for Surbiton five minutes into the second half but goals in the final quarter from Beth Alexander (Penalty Stroke) and Amy Cradden (penalty corner) secured an amazing win. Reading now top the pool after a 7-0 win over Clifton Robinsons with six different players finding the net in a 35-minute goal blitz between the 22-55 minutes. Any two of the three teams could qualify for the finals depending on results in the last round.

England: Premier Division Review – 5th April

england premier division review 5th april 67f3f1287fe8f - England: Premier Division Review - 5th April - Oxted produced a shock result in the Mens Play-offs Pool B drawing at Holcombe and winning the shootout for a bonus point. Only seven days previously Oxted lost 5-0 to their hosts but secured a fine 2-2 draw on Saturday. Oxted goals from Ollie Bennett and Chris Porter were twice cancelled out by Teague Marcano and Alex Pendle. The game was goalless in the last 30 minutes and in the subsequent shootout it was 2-2 after five each before Oxted clinched it 3-2. The other game in Pool B went to form with Surbiton beating Beeston 3-0 thanks to goals from Max Anderson, Stuart Rushmere and Jacob Smith. Beeston’s Henry Croft failed to find the net for only the second game this season.  In Pool A Old Georgians returned to winning ways with a 6-1 defeat of East Grinstead.  James Carson, Sam Ward (2) and Alan Forsyth gave them a 4-0 half time lead and Tom Carson added two more before Simon Faulkner’s consolation corner on full time. Wimbledon also won by a five goal margin, beating Hampstead & Westminster 5-0. Goals came from a brace each for Duncan Scott and Ben Francis plus one for Euan Gilmour. Hampstead have now only won once since the break.  In the Relegation Pool Richmond’s demotion was confirmed with a 4-3 loss at Southgate. It was a tight game level at 2-2 going into the last 10 minutes when goals for Hugh Page and Alistair Douglas put Southgate 4-2 up. Although Hamish Imrie pulled one back with three minutes to go Richmond couldn’t find an equaliser.  It was an important win for Southgate as it keeps them six points clear of Bowdon. Bowdon beat Cardiff & Met 3-2 in another game that was 2-2 going into the last 10. Carlos Dolado-Hollyman hit a 69th minute winner for Bowdon but their joy will have been tempered by the Southgate result, and the London side hold a greatly superior goal difference.   TOP SCORERS

england week 18 review of the england hockey league 67ebeac749ee9 - England: Week 18 Review of the England Hockey League - Durham University clinched the Womens Division One North title with a 4-3 win at Gloucester City. Needing to avoid defeat to finish first Durham found themselves 1-0 and 2-1 down to an in-form Gloucester team either side of half time. They then took a 3-2 lead into the dying moments before a 68th minute Emma Williams equaliser set up a potentially stressful last two minutes. However Scarlet Spavin settled the nerves with a goal a minute later to seal a 4-3 win and promotion to the top-flight for the first time. After a poor start to the season Beeston had pursued Durham all the way and won 5-0 at Ben Rhydding but to no avail. The other outstanding matter was who would go down with Wakefield. Leicester City defeated the Yorkshire side 5-1 but were unable to overhaul Pendle Forest who had a fine 4-2 win at Buckingham, pipping Leicester for eighth on goal difference.  Elsewhere Repton beat Olton & West Warwicks 2-0.  All matters had been wrapped up in Womens Division One South before the weekend. Champions Barnes received the trophy and medals after a 4-0 win over Harleston Magpies. Runners-up Exeter University won 3-0 at Bristol Firebrands, Sevenoaks beat  Southgate 3-1 at Trent Park and Surbiton 2s won 2-1 at Guildford. In the battle between the bottom two Wimbledon 2s came out on top in a 3-0 win over Slough to move above them into ninth.         It was a similar story in Conference West with only pride up for grabs. Emma Howitt scored both Lansdown’s goals in a 2-0 win at champions Reading 2s, ending their hopes of an unbeaten season.  Second placed Trojans drew 3-3 with Exeter. Team Bath Buccaneers beat Marlow 2-0. The relegated teams Witney and Swansea both lost at home, to Clifton Robinsons 2, 5-1 and Cheltenham, 2-0, respectively.  In Conference Midlands title winners Loughborough Students 2 signed off in style with a 7-2 win at Cannock. Runners-up Cambridge City beat Cambridge University 2-1 to take the Town v Gown honours. Birmingham University 2s won 3-1 at Stourport and St Albans were victorious 3-2 at relegated Bedford. Who would join Bedford in playing Area League hockey next season was the only outstanding matter. Beeston 2s travelled to Oxford Hawks with the hosts needing to win to overhaul the Nottinghamshire side. Hawks achieved this with a 3-1 win.  The Conference North champions Leeds fell to a 4-2 loss at Whitley Bay & Tynemouth. Alderley Edge beat Durham University 2s by the same scoreline as did Bowdon 2s against relegated Harrogate. A 1-0 win for Didsbury Northern at Newcastle University meant they jumped out of the bottom two, to be replaced by Doncaster who went down 4-3 at Fylde,   The battle for the Conference East title went to the wire and it was Teddington who proved victorious by two points. They went into the last round of games level on points with Hampstead & Westminster 2s but with a marginally inferior goal difference. However Hampstead could only draw, 2-2, at Old Georgians meaning that Teddington’s 4-2 win at London Wayfarers secured them top spot.  Elsewhere relegated East London lost 2-0 at home to Canterbury and Sevenoaks 2s who are also going down drew 2-2 at Spencer. Old Loughtonians and Wapping drew 1-1.  The eight Area League winners will be promoted to the league and to date the following champions are confirmed

england premier division review 67ea6f04aa55c - England: Premier Division Review - Despite being held to a 2-2 draw by Reading a point was enough for Hampstead & Westminster to secure top spot in the second stage of the Premier Division and with it a European place for 2026. Catherine Ledesma and Lucy Hyams twice game Hampstead a first half lead only to be pegged back by goals from Caroline Spence and Annie Wilson. Second placed Surbiton could have overtaken Hampstead with a win but were defeated 5-3 at home by East Grinstead. Giselle Ansley and Erica Sanders put Surbiton two up but goals from Biba Mills and Tess Howard made it 2-2 at the break. Darcy Bourne again put Surbiton in the lead but Howard equalised again and goals in the final quarter from Oliva Shannon and a second for Mills made it 5-3 to EG who finish fourth. Wimbledon in fifth beat Loughborough Students, who did not win a game in stage 2, 2-0.
