Scotland: Busy July for Scotland’s officials on the international stage

July has been the busiest month of activity for Scotland’s fantastic technical officials and umpires in Europe.

On 3-7 July we had Barbara Morgan as TD at the EuroHockey Senior 5s tournament in Walcz, Poland, with Colin Boubert as TO and Terry Morgan as a judge.

Also, on 3-7 July we had Martin Monaghan as TD at the EuroHockey U16 5s in Zagreb, Croatia, with Katie Joss as a judge. This was Katie’s first EuroHockey appointment and she received an excellent report.

At the Glasgow National Hockey Centre there were many Scots officials in action with umpires, Tim Hart; Caitlin Williams; Kerry Nicol; Sam Cowan; Tahirah Yousaf all taking to the pitch, alongside technical officials, Anne Wotherspoon; Scott Baird; Logan Forbes; Iain Cowe; and Rona MacVicar.

On 14-20 July Ged Curran and Alex Fedenczuk are at the Joint U21 Championships in Terrassa, Spain – Ged is an umpires manager and Alex is a neutral umpire.

Meanwhile Grace Mulholland is in Walcz, Poland, as a judge at the Men’s U21 Championships II-A.

In Lausanne, Switzerland, we have three representatives at the Men’s U21 Championships II-B. John Heron as umpires manager; Dr. Victoria Truesdale as TO and Jamie Telfer as our national umpire.

Then in Konya, Turkey, we have Lorna Christou as a judge and Kristie Burnett as our national umpire.

Next up, of course, we have Martin Madden and Sarah Wilson in Paris at their third Olympics, which is an exceptional achievement and an emblem of Scottish officiating.

For a small nation with small pool of umpires and even smaller pool of officials we do very well at an international level, testament to the coaching and mentoring that is provided within that small community by the experienced group of volunteers within the international appointments panel.
