Scotland women were defeated 5-0 by Belgium at Women’s EuroHockey Championship in Monchengladbach.
The game was 30 seconds old when Belgium took the lead. Pouncing down the left on a mistake Ambre Ballenghien ran through on goal and smashed the ball into the bottom right corner for 1-0.
Belgium came in waves and Jess Buchanan saves alongside an Amy Costello clearance off the line kept Scotland in touch.
It went to 2-0 when a Ballenghien penalty corner deflected off Eve Pearson and found the back of the net to advance the Belgium lead.
It soon went to 3-0 when a defensive error was pounced upon and tapped home by Justine Rasir to give Belgium a three goal advantage.
After half time Belgium scored a fourth when Stephanie Vanden Borre found the net, and shortly later it went to 5-0 with a sublime penalty corner into the bottom right corner by Astrid Bonami.
Scotland battled hard but Belgium enjoyed good control in the final quarter and there would be no further goals.
