Kampong women have won the battle for the ABN Amro Cup for the first time in history. Coach Kai de Jager’s team won the preseason tournament by beating SCHC in the final after shoot-outs. Both teams had held each other to 3-3 in regular playing time.
The home team started strongly and took an early lead on their own pitch in Utrecht through Guusje Moes. SCHC responded immediately and levelled the score through Yibbi Jansen, who signed for the 1-2 from another penalty corner moments later. Shortly before half-time, Iris de Kemp brought Kampong alongside again (2-2).
After the break, Jansen put SCHC ahead for the second time with her third goal – again from a penalty corner. However, Kampong straightened their back and came back to 3-3 through Noor de Baat.
As no more goals were scored in the final stages, shoot-outs (with three attempts each per team) had to decide. In those, Kampong drew the longest straw. Goalkeeper Alexandra Backers distinguished herself in the series, while Luna Fokke and Guusje Moes made the most of their shoot-outs.
