Irish champions Railway Union go into the winter break in third place of the women’s EY Hockey League with ground to make up on league leaders Loreto in the new year.
Railway are the only side to take points off their fellow Dublin outfit thus far with a 1-1 draw early in November; they subsequently drew with fellow top three side UCD to sit on 21 points after 11 rounds of matches.
Loreto, meanwhile, have an eight-point advantage over both of those clubs with nine wins out of 10 so far.
For Railway, it has been a season with plenty of transition during the summer with key internationals Róisín Upton and Sarah Hawkshaw both moving to Braxgata in Belgium while Katie Mullan has been limited to just a trio of appearances so far.
But they have been boosted by one of Ireland’s most exciting young talents Hollaí Quinn with the 16-year-old scoring six times in the league since moving from Corinthian.
She is part of the Irish Under-21 panel along with Matilde Errico while the likes of Niamh Gowing and sisters Sarah and Orla Patton are other vital components of the panel.
