Saturday, February 21: Several topflight sides had to hold their nerve in shootouts to progress past the KO16 round of the AIG Irish Senior Cup.

In the Women’s competition, Old Alex and Loreto both scored late to force shootouts against Cork Harlequins and Loreto, with both sides holding their nerve. Pegasus and Monkstown made no mistake on the road against Corinthian and Lurgan. College sides UCD and Queen’s University both progressed with results against Portadown and Pembroke Wanderers. And Catholic Institute edged provincial rivals UCC to reach the Quarter Finals Stage.

In the Men’s competition, Avoca came from two goals down to force a shootout which they went on the win after making the trip south to Cork Harlequins. South Antrim stunned Cookstown in a ten-goal thriller, coming from behind to beat their fellow Ulster side. Banbridge and Pembroke Wanderers put big score lines up to beat Cork sides Cork C of I and Bandon. Three Rock Rovers and Corinthian made no mistake against Ulster sides Queen’s University and Instonians. And reigning champions Lisnagarvey beat YMCA in a repeat of last season’s final to get their title defence off to a positive start.
