Old Georgians won back the English men’s title as they overcame Wimbledon 3-2 in Sunday’s final as Surbiton ended up in third place.
All three clubs qualify for next season’s EHL Men as a result with OGs and Surbiton – as regular season champions – going through to the FINAL12 with Wimbledon set to play in ROUND1 in October.
Wimbledon stunned Surbiton in the semi-final as they inflicted a first defeat of the season on their London rivals with a 4-2 result.
And they also made a terrific start to final against Old Georgians – who defeated Hampstead & Westminester – with a deflected shot from Euan Gilmour finding its way past James Mazarelo.
Louis Tipper doubled the Wombles’ lead on the 25th minute mark, before OGs scored less than a minute later through Henry Weir to bring their deficit to one goal before half time.
In his last match of professional hockey before retirement, David Ames scored six minutes into the second half from a well-constructed penalty corner routine to level the scores.
Soon after, Henry Croft smashed home the winner, also from a penalty corner, which led Old Georgians to lift their fourth Premier Division title in five seasons.
