EHL: Pinoké men and Kampong women win ABN AMRO Cup – EHL

Pinoké’s men and SV Kampong’s women have won the annual ABN AMRO Cup, the curtain-raiser for the new club season in the Netherlands.

Pinoké’s won the title for the first time in their club history after edging Den Bosch 4-3 in a thrilling final in Rotterdam.

The Amsterdamse Bos side raced into an early lead in a high-paced contest with Miles Bukkens proving the difference. The striker scored three times, including the winner from a penalty stroke six minutes from time, to cap an impressive performance and seal the trophy.

For Den Bosch, they repeatedly fighting their way back into the match. Timo Boers scored twice for the Brabant club while Koen Bijen also found the net, but Pinoké held firm to secure victory ahead of the start of the Hoofdklasse season.

EHL ROUND1 side Oranje-Rood closed out their campaign with a 3-0 loss to HC Rotterdam while Kampong beat Bloemendaal to earn third place.

In the women’s final, Kampong successfully defended their ABN AMRO Cup crown with a dramatic 3-2 comeback win over Bloemendaal.

Despite controlling much of the opening stages, Kampong found themselves 2-0 down following goals from Sophie Thoolen and Ankelein Baardemans.

The Utrecht side responded strongly after the break. New signing Mikki Roberts pulled a goal back from a penalty corner before Bente van der Veldt levelled the scores just two minutes later.

With momentum firmly on Kampong’s side, Van der Veldt struck again five minutes from time to complete the turnaround and secure a second consecutive ABN AMRO Cup title for coach Kai de Jager’s side.

SCHC finished off their tournament on a winning note with a 1-0 win over Pinoké.
