Wednesday, September 23: EY Hockey League action continues into Round 2 this weekend, with teams looking to build on positive starts to their campaigns and carry that early momentum forward. For others, it is an opportunity to respond from the opening round and get their season up and running, with plenty still to play for this early in the campaign.
In the Women’s EYHL, a college derby takes centre stage in Belfield as UCD look to get their first points on the board against Queen’s University, who enter the tie after a positive start against Portadown. Loreto will hope to make it two wins from two as they host Ards, with the visitors eyeing an upset against the league title holders. Portadown welcome Pembroke Wanderers to Edenvilla with the hosts hoping a home crowd can help lift them to their first win. Railway Union take on fellow Leinster side Old Alex in a Dublin Derby. And newly promoted Monkstown take on Pegasus in Rathdown as both sides pursue a first league win after an opening round defeat for the former, and a draw for the latter.
In the Men’s EYHL, having both secured points in round 1 Three Rock Rovers and Avoca face off in a tie that has had its fair share of fireworks in recent years. Banbridge play their first game in Havelock Park as they welcome a Portrane side who have yet another tough task on their hands early on. Cork Harlequins welcome Monkstown to Farmer’s Cross in their first home outing since their topflight return as they look to grab their first points. Lisnagarvey travel south to face Corinthian in pursuit of a second win, while the hosts aim to bounce back from their late defeat to Pembroke Wanderers. And YMCA and Pembroke Wanderers go head-to-head in Wesley College as the hosts look to get off the mark with a win against their Dublin compatriots.
