Rot-Weiss Köln’s six-point weekend means they remain one point of first place in the German men’s Bundesliga just behind fellow EHL team Hamburger Polo Club.
On Saturday, Rot-Weiss secured their second home win against Münchner SC as they increased their World Cup winning quota to seven players with only Tom Grambusch still missing.
They needed to be patient, taking until the 46th minute to break the deadlock through Raphael Hartkopf with a rebound shot. Jakob Brilla increased the lead to 2-0 shortly after from a corner which was the game-breaker. Hartkopf added two more before Max Lang got a consolation goal for MSC in the 60th minute.
A day later, it followed a similar pattern against Berliner HC as it remained goalless until the 44th minute when Hartkopf scored once more – his sixth goal this season – and Brilla doubled the advantage two minutes later.
Nico Kirstein did cut the gap back to 2-1 but Rot-Weiss successfully held on for the win.
It adds further momentum as they build up to the EHL in Eindhoven from October 9th to 11th.
For Polo, they followed a thrilling 6-5 win over UHC Hamburg on Friday evening with a 4-3 success against Harvestehuder THC to lift them to 11 points after four rounds.
Mannheimer HC have a perfect record with three wins from three so far after away wins over DSD Düsseldorf and Uhlenhorst Mülheim last weekend.
