Saturday, October 3: There were no shortage of goals in Round 3 of the EY Hockey League, as league leaders Lisnagarvey and Railway Union both recorded high scoring wins to continue their unbeaten runs, while other sides recorded crucial first wins to remain in the hunt.

In the Women’s EYHL, Railway Union made it three wins from three as they put eight goals past Portadown in Edenvilla, Aisling Utri bagging herself a hatrick. An Ards goal in the final minute of play maintained their unbeaten record as they continued their superb start to the season. Loreto got their title defence back on track with a win away to Queen’s University courtesy of a Yasmin Pratt penalty corner. Old Alex recorded their first win of the campaign, beating Pegasus by a single goal to get their first points on the board. And Pembroke Wanderers grabbed a bonus point draw at home to UCD to climb into third spot.

In the Men’s EYHL, Lisnagarvey ran riot in front of a home crowd, putting eight past Monkstown to continue their perfect start to the campaign. There was little to separate Banbridge and Three Rock Rovers in Havelock Park as the two title contenders shared the points, with the home side holding their nerve in the shootout to secure the bonus point. Pembroke continued their run of high scoring outings, narrowly beating Cork Harlequins in a seven-goal thriller. Avoca grabbed a first win of the season after successive draws to remain unbeaten, scoring two unasnwered goals to overcome YMCA. And Corinthian added their first three points, beating Portrane away from home.
