EHL: Rot-Weiss lead way into German men’s winter break

Rot-Weiss Köln’s men completed the first phase of the German season in flying form as they defeated SC Frankfurt 80 6-1 with Christopher Rühr scoring a hat trick.

Thies Ole Prinz got the ball rolling with a 16th minute opening goals before Rühr expanded the lead, sitting 2-1 up at half-time. And they cut loose after the break with Phillip Holzmüller, Florian Adrians and two more from Rühr building the big scoreline.

The result leaves them with the best record going into their winter break, picking up 27 points from their 10 games to date. They sit top of Pool A with a better goal difference than Uhlenhorst Mülheim who have also played a game more.

Theirs is the stronger pool so far with Hamburger Polo Club on 24 points and Harvestehuder THC on 22.

By contract, Mannheimer HC lead Pool B with just 21 points to their name while UHC Hamburg (15 points), Crefelder HTC (14), Der Club an der Alster (13) and TSV Mannheim (11) are jostling for their playoff places.

The season goes indoors until March 16 in 2024 when Rot-Weiss Köln will meet Mannheim in a pre-EHL fixture which the former side will get them back into the outdoor frame of mind. A week later, they will meet HTHC before their EHL campaign begins.
