The Dutch can still add to their points tally with one more match to come. Despite the defeat, Belgium can still sneak to the top, if they win their final two matches – one again Spain and the other a rematch against the Netherlands. That all makes for a thrilling final few days of action ahead in Antwerp. Meanwhile, earlier in the day, the Dutch women ground out a hard-fought 2-0 victory over a gritty Belgian side. While the Netherlands have already secured the women’s title, the Belgians remain in the hunt for a medal position with three matches remaining.

The home side’s 7-2 victory saw the Olympic champions taking a step closer to Great Britain at the top of the table with three matches remaining. With Spain now out of the running, only GB, Belgium and the Netherlands remain in the hunt for the men’s title. Earlier in the afternoon, Germany’s women produced a clinical performance, demolishing the USA 6-0. The result means the Americans now only have three more matches to try and secure the three points needed to avoid relegation.

Later in the day, the already relegated Black Sticks men couldn’t prevent the Netherlands from continuing their quest for FIH Hockey Pro League honours. The Dutch claimed a comfortable 4-1 victory to take a step closer to overtaking Great Britain at the top of the standings, with two matches remaining. Both Spain and Belgium also remain in the running for the men’s title, making for a thrilling final mini-tournament in Antwerp, starting on Friday.
