HockeyOne: HC Melbourne v Canberra Chill to be broadcast in Hindi

In an Australian hockey first, the broadcast of this Friday night’s JDH Hockey One League double header between HC Melbourne and Canberra Chill will be available with commentary in Hindi.

The coverage of the crucial final round double header is expected to expand the horizons of the JDH Hockey One League even further into new markets.

The JDH Hockey One League 2023 Season is already being broadcast into India through Fancode, so having a fixture covered in the country’s official language will add further interest and appeal to Indian sporting fans both in Australia and abroad.

The JDH Hockey One League has no shortage of world class talent. This Friday’s men’s match will feature Canberra Chill’s Indian superstar Rupinder Pal Singh, plus capped Kookaburras Nathan Ephraums and Craig Marais (HC Melbourne) and Canberra’s Ben Staines and Davis Atkin.

“This is a fantastic innovation for the JDH Hockey One League that will open doors to audiences and regions we have not reached before,” said JDH Hockey One League Executive Manager Sash Herceg.

“Hockey is one of the most popular sports in India and with a large Indian contingent in Australia and abroad, we are delighted to be able to provide this unique opportunity to showcase the best of Australian hockey to the Indian community in a native language.”

“In addition to the new eyeballs this will attract on Friday night, we’re looking forward to making stronger community and commercial links with the Indian community, both in Australia and overseas, and are excited about where this might lead in the future.”

The Hindi commentary for the men’s and women’s matches will be provided by multicultural AFL ambassador Harbir Singh, who commentates AFL matches in Hindi, and Jasmeet Kaur.

The announcement and initiative coincides with last Sunday’s Diwali celebrations, which is the Hindu festival of lights.

Previous rounds and replays of the JDH Hockey One League 2023 Season are available on demand on the 7plus Hockey Replays Channel.
