Wales boys were looking to secure a spot in the final two as they played the Czech Republic in the first of two semi finals today in Swansea.

An intense match between the two evenly matched sides certainly entertained the crowd persevering through the South Wales downpours.

The Czech Republic took an early lead through a great individual attacking effort by Voltech Tronicek. Alex Starling equalised for Wales through a strong low dragflick.

A controversial penalty stroke saw Wales behind again in the 17th minute before Adam Holik added his second of the game to extend the Czech’s lead.

The Czech Republic extended their lead by another two penalty corner conversions in the second half and despite a consolation goal for Adam Thwaite in the 45th minute the final score saw the Czech’s advance to the final by 5 goals to 2.

The boys will play for the bronze medal at 11:45 tomorrow.

Meanwhile the Welsh girls started on the attacking foot in their final game against Turkey with Matilda Collins finding the net in the 2nd minute with Caitlin Witham adding to the tally just a minute later.

Turkey clawed one back via Evin Guncan in the 25th minute before Ella Grabham extended Wales’ lead as she deflected in a beautiful reverse cross from Freya Diamond.

Caitlin Witham and Jemima Robinson brought Wales’ total to 5 before Turkey snuck in a consolation goal before the final whistle.
