Field Hockey Canada is thrilled to announce Calgary, Alberta as the official host-city of the 2024 Indoor Pan American Championships. The women’s and men’s tournament will take place simultaneously at the Chiefs Sportsplex, in Calgary on March 18 to 22, 2024.

The last time Canada hosted the Indoor Pan American Championships was in 2005 in Waterloo, Ontario. Since then, the event has taken place in Argentina, Venezuela, Uruguay, Guyana, and in 2021, the event was held in Pennsylvania, USA.

Field Hockey Canada welcomes the Pan American countries to Alberta with open arms. This tournament is a part of Field Hockey Canada’s hosting strategy along with the 2024 Junior Pan American Championships, set to take place in Surrey, BC in the early summer 2024. CEO Susan Ahrens said she’s excited to bring these hockey playing nations together for an incredible competition.

“We are delighted to welcome the Pan American teams to Canada. Indoor hockey is an important part of our hockey community and pathways. We are thrilled to bring this tournament to western Canada as we build the program from coast-to-coast-to-coast in a truly inclusive manner,” Ahrens said. “The chance for our athletes to play at home in front of Canada’s passionate supporters is one we are proud to deliver for our athlete group.”

The tournament will serve as an Indoor World Cup qualifier. The number of teams advancing out of the Pan Americas in the women’s and men’s divisions is currently to be determined by the FIH. Canada’s men’s team last qualified for the Indoor World Cup in 2015 and the women’s team placed a record eighth at the 2023 FIH Indoor World Cup in South Africa.

The 2024 indoor Pan American Championships will be collaboratively hosted by Field Hockey Canada, Pan American Hockey Federation, and Field Hockey Alberta. PAHF President Alberto “coco” Budeisky said he’s excited to bring the elite indoor hockey to Canada for the first time in a decade.

“The Indoor Pan American Championships tournament has become a pinnacle event in our calendar because it provides a platform for our athletes and officials to excel and compete at the highest level of indoor hockey,” Budeisky said. “Canada’s rich hockey heritage, combined with its commitment to hosting world-class events, makes it an ideal setting for this tournament. Together, we are committed to delivering a tournament that will exceed expectations, leaving a lasting legacy for indoor hockey in the Americas.”

Ahrens would like to extend the organization’s thanks to everyone involved with making this tournament a reality.

“I would like to give my many thanks to Field Hockey Alberta, the Pan American Hockey Federation, our local organizing committee, the greater Calgary sports community, partners, sponsors and supporters for making this happen. It promises to be a memorable and exciting event. One that is sure to build the Canadian hockey pathway and celebrate hockey in Canada.”

Field Hockey Canada looks forward to welcoming everyone to the 2024 Indoor Pan American The event will take place at the Chiefs Sportsplex, in Calgary on March 18-22, 2024. Be on the lookout in the coming months for roster announcement, schedule, streaming information, and more updates.
