Scottish Hockey has announced the clubs who have been awarded funding from the new Club Community Fund.
Kelburne Hockey Club; Western Wildcats Hockey Club; Preston Lodge and Ross High Hockey Club; Harris Academy FP Hockey Club; Aberdeen Hockey Club Hockey Club; Grove Menzieshill Hockey Club; Dundee Wanderers Hockey Club; The Watsonian Hockey Club; Eskvale Hockey Club; Stirling Wanderers Hockey Club; Berwick Hockey Club; Ferguslie Ladies Hockey Club; Hillhead men’s Hockey Club; and Giffnock Hockey Club were all successful in their applications.
As we move into our #Build phase of our strategic plan, Scottish Hockey launched a new fund for clubs to access. From our consultation sessions at the end of 2022, it was clear that school hockey was a priority in order to grow and develop the game.
From this feedback we created a Club Community Fund for season 2023-24, to support clubs to engage local schools in hockey, where there is currently little or no hockey provision.
Clubs could apply for up to £1000.00 to deliver a project to engage local primary or secondary schools, and create strong school to club links. The successful projects are linked to following outcomes:
- Introduce hockey to new schools with little or no provision.
- Grow participation of youth hockey at the club.
- Develop teachers/coaches/young leaders.
- Increase transition and retention players within the club.
Scottish Hockey’s Director of Hockey Operations, Jennifer Griffin, said, “We’re delighted to deliver funding for clubs through our first Club Community Fund. The response from clubs was fantastic, with some innovative proposals across the country, and it’s great to help these projects get off the ground.
“The Club Community Fund is key as we move into the Build phase of Scottish Hockey’s vision, and from our consultation sessions in 2022 it was clear that supporting clubs to work with schools was an important priority for us, especially where there isn’t any hockey offer at the moment. The Club Community Fund, and the fantastic work it’ll help clubs deliver, will make a great impact in school-to-club links across Scotland.”
