GHHC Groningen is the winner of this year’s Directors’ Trophy. The northerners received this award Saturday at the KNHB General Meeting. In addition to eternal glory, the club received a check worth 5,000 euros.
Groningen received the most votes of the three nominated teams. Lochem and Hoorn were the other clubs that stood a chance of winning the trophy. The theme of this year’s Directors’ Trophy was recruiting and retaining youth members. Groningen tackled that in its own way. In addition to structural recruitment through elementary school, an attempt was made to recruit more boy members through a so-called “multisport approach.

‘The club combines direct recruitment campaigns with initiatives that make the sport more attractive and accessible. This leads not only to more intake, but also to a stronger youth education and a higher level within the region. The annual decline of two percent has been converted to an (expected) membership growth of four percent,” the KNHB wrote in the “winners’ report.
Both the public and all associations were able to cast a vote. The public’s votes counted twenty percent. During Saturday’s KNHB General Meeting, the board of all associations present could cast one vote. These votes counted eighty percent. Lochem and Hoorn both won field hockey clinics for one hundred people.
