VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The 2025 Nexus Championship (NXC), presented by Osaka Hockey, came to an end on a warm Sunday evening in Virginia Beach. The event concluded after 11 days with the final age division of the Junior NXC, U-21, alongside the Senior NXC. Team Atlanta took home gold at the U-21 Junior NXC while Barcelona were champions of Senior NXC.
The U-21 Junior NXC and Senior NXC began on July 18, after the final matches of the U-18 NXC concluded, with practices under the lights. Competition began the next day with pool play matches, which continued into the next day for the eight Senior teams. The six U-21 teams started off the morning with the two semifinal matches, which were battles between Salt Lake City and Atlanta and Amsterdam against St. Louis. Atlanta defeated their opponent, 3-2, scoring the third goal in the final 30 seconds of the match. Amsterdam made their way to the final with a 3-1 victory over St. Louis. The U-21 NXC championship match would be decided in shootouts after a 2-2 tie, with Atlanta claiming gold.
After finishing top in their respective pools, Vancouver and Barcelona met in the Senior NXC championship, with Barcelona coming out on top.
Athletes from around the country in these two divisions showed off their skills in front of selectors, coaches, and fans as they competed for evaluation to further opportunities. Congratulations to all the athletes for their hard work and dedication.
