Gantoise and KHC Dragons will contest the Belgian women’s final next weekend with both confirmed in next season’s EHL.

For regular season champions Gantoise, there was high drama with only Stephane Vanden Borre’s last minute corner saving the day. Indeed, they were left with a lot to do after they fell 4-2 on Thursday to Antwerp.

And they still had a massive hill to climb deep into the second half of the second leg as they went behind 1-0 and 2-1 with 30 minutes to go.

Mercedes Pastor got them back level in the tie before Vanden Borre’s stroke in the 54th minute closed the gap to just one goal at 3-2.

With 15 minutes left, Alexine Matthysen drew the tie level overall at 6-6 (4-2 to Gantoise) and they won it in normal time via Vanden Borre’s corner.

Dragons, meanwhile, qualified for the EHL for the first time as they built a 2-0 lead in the first leg and then held off the WatDucks in the second leg.

In that leg, the Ducks did cut the lead via Vanessa Blockmans with seven minutes to go but a near instant response from Valerie Magis from a corner eased the tension. It made it 1-1 in the tie and 3-1 on aggregate.
