Muscat, Oman – 14 December 2024: The JSW Women Empowerment Workshop took place at 11:30 am in Muscat, Oman, bringing together sports professionals, community leaders, and aspiring female athletes to explore strategies for enhancing women’s roles in sports and leadership.
Opening RemarksDr. Marwan Juma Al Juma, Vice President of the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) and Chairman of Hockey Oman, delivered the opening address. He underscored the importance of women’s participation in sports and called for continued efforts toward gender equality and leadership development.
Insightful SpeechesEsteemed speakers shared their experiences and perspectives throughout the workshop:
Madam Shin Jung Hee, Acting President of the Korean Hockey Association and Chairperson of the Women Advisory Panel, highlighted initiatives aimed at advancing women’s involvement in hockey across Asia.
Liu Xiaoying, Assistant Umpires Manager of the Women’s Junior Asia Cup (WJAC), discussed the growing presence of women in sports officiating and the significance of mentorship.
Ernsawati Mahmood, Technical Delegate, shared her inspiring life journey, emphasizing determination, professional growth, and her contributions to international hockey development.
Hyun Kang Young, Umpires Manager of WJAC, reflected on her career milestones and how she overcame challenges to become a respected leader in the sports community.
Shakuntla Bopana from Oman Hockey reflected on her personal journey, emphasizing resilience and determination.
Kitty Yau, AHF Umpires Manager, stressed the importance of creating inclusive environments that support emerging female leaders.
Recognizing Women LeadersThe event culminated with the presentation of the prestigious JSW Women Leadership Awards, celebrating outstanding contributions to women’s empowerment in sports. The honorees included:
