EHL: Amsterdam hold off challenge of East Grinstead

AH&BC Amsterdam advanced to the ABN AMRO EHL FINAL4 as they held off the challenge of English newcomers East Grinstead 3-1.

Amsterdam went in front in the 14th minute when Sabine Plönissen slammed in a penalty corner into the bottom right of the backboard.

But they found East Grinstead – and Amy Thompson in particular – to be incredibly tough to break down and the English side grew in confidence as the game went on.

Felice Albers did lift home a rising shot to double the advantage before EG hit back with Sophie Bray scoring a typically brilliant goal.

She intercepted a loose clearance, ran around the last defender and calmly slotted the ball into the net. Biba Mills had only been denied a few minutes before by a crucial Floor de Haan touch and it made for a tense closing phase.

In the end, Amsterdam settled the tie with a few minutes to go from a corner, worked well back to Freeke Moes at the injector spot.
