The big issues in the Spanish men’s league will go down to the wire with leading duo Real Club de Campo and Real Club de Polo locked on 54 points with one game to go.
Meanwhile, three sides are level on 40 points in the chase for the two remaining playoff places, making for an exciting finale to the regular season.
At the top, Polo secured a 3-2 victory at Can Sales to put a dent in Atlètic’s playoff plans. Marc Miralles converted a penalty in the 29th minute, but Francesc Xavier Castelló equalized for Atlètic in the 33rd.
Ramon Sala’s team took a 3-1 lead with goals from Guillermo Marco in the 41st minute and Nico Álvarez in the 51st, keeping them clear despite Pepe Cunill’s late reply.
Campo took all three points from Pla del Bon Aire with a 2-1 victory over Club Egara. Pere Divorra opened the scoring early for the Terrassa side but Álvaro Iglesias equalised in the 53rd minute.
And, with just a minute remaining, Ignacio Abajo secured the win for Edu Aguilar’s team, who remain top of the league but any slip next week could open the door for Polo.
Sanse Complutense took advantage of Atlèti’s defeat as they saw off Jolaseta 4-1 while Junior FC won 3-2 against FC Barcelona.
Sanse host RS Tenis next week; Atlèti go to FC Barcelona and Junior take on Polo with all three still fighting for their playoff hopes.
On the women’s side, the playoff picture was completed with Atlètic Terrassa’s 1-0 win over UD Taburiente and Egara’s 1-0 victory over CD Terrassa ensuring they both finish in the top four.
Campo and Sanse Complutense had already confirmed their tickets to the final four.
