Clydesdale Western completed the perfect weekend in Alanya at the women’s EuroHockey Club Trophy II, rubber-stamping their place in next season’s EHL Women.
They defeated Switzerland’s Rotweiss Wettingen in Sunday’s final to make it four big wins out of four, scoring 29 times and conceding just twice.
Ava Graham got them off to a dream start when she scored in the seventh minute and Emma McGregor put more daylight between the teams in Q2. They weren’t able to make more use of 10 penalty corners but the victory was put to bed in the final quarter, fittingly by captain Millie Steiger who made it three.
After topping the EuroHockey II Trophy Competition Alanya, Steiger, said: “We are delighted to secure promotion and finish the competition as winners. The team played some great hockey and were particularly happy to go unbeaten and score 29 goals!”
Coming after a strong domestic campaign after winning both the Scottish Cup and Scottish Grand Finals, where the team secured a spot in the EHL for next Easter – winning in Alanya was the icing on top of a great season.
Player Coach, Fiona Semple added: “The team have laid some great foundations for next season and we’re looking forward to competing with the best in Europe in the EHL next year”.
