EHL: East Grinstead storm back into top six contention

East Grinstead continued their strong upturn in form to put them right in the frame to land a top six spot from the first half of the English women’s Vitality Premier Division.

It made it 10 points from the last 12 available for the reigning English champions, bouncing back from a slow start which saw them lose four of their first six games.

On Saturday, they swept outside Isca & University of Exeter with Grace Balsdon and Sophie Bray penalty corners putting them 2-0 up.

Bray went on to score a hat trick with two more in the second half in addition to one from Anna Faulstich with Isca getting just one reply four minutes from the end in a 5-1 result.

It added to strong away wins over Hampstead & Westminster and Reading and a draw with University of Birmingham.

Those results have lifted the club up to fourth place in the table with one round of the first half of the competition to be played after which the league splits into a top and bottom six phase.

Crucially, they are three points clear of seventh placed Wimbledon and Clifton Robinsons in eighth with a sizeable goal difference gap. A draw or better against Loughborough Students will confirm their place in the top half.

Surbiton lead the way with nine wins out of ten with Reading in second, five points behind. Hampstead & Westminster are the other sides confirmed in the top six already.
