Edinburgh University won the Scottish men’s Grand Final with a 3-1 win over Western Wildcats to claim an EHL spot for the first time.

In the final, Wildcats started well and played some neat hockey but as the quarter continued, the pendulum began to swing towards the students.

The game’s first chance produced the first goal and it was Edinburgh University that found the net, a trademark Jamie Golden drag flick found the net against his old club for 1-0.

Western struck an equaliser early in the second half. Some excellent work by Rob Harwood on the right baseline saw the ball find Adam MacKenzie at the far post to slap home for 1-1.

But Edinburgh went back in front with an unstoppable drag flick into the roof of the net for 2-1.

Moments later another penalty corner went to the students and the inevitable happened as Golden’s third drag of the day made it 3-1.
