Lisnagarvey eased past the challenge of CAM 92 6-0 to advance from Pool D, going through to the knock-out stages of the competition for a third time.
It equaled the biggest ever win by an Irish club in the EHL – level with Three Rock Rovers victory over Racing Club de France – and was considerably more than what they needed to top the group in Eindhoven.
Ben Nelson was given all the time in the world to race through the centre of the CAM 92 defence who looked to be anticipating a pass which never came. He kept going before flicking into the corner for a sixth minute lead.
James Milliken needed to be vigilant to make some key saves to keep the lead intact and they gave themselves a further boost when Ollie Kidd scored a direct corner flick, 2-0 at half-time.
And things got worse for CAM in Q3 when Garvey piled on three more goals. Matthew Nelson added to the tally following Johnny Lynch’s great run along the right baseline.
Matthew Aughey got the pick of the goals, racing onto Daniel Nelson’s pass down the right sideline before getting to the baseline, cutting back and applying a chipped reverse-stick finish. Mark McNellis’s penalty corner made it five.
Harry Archbold completed the victory in the final 15 seconds when he reacted to get his stick on a rebound at close range.
