EHL: Münchner SC, Surbiton, Gantoise and HDM top EHL U14 groups

The ABN AMRO EHL U14 hit the turf with a bang on Saturday with 12 of Europe’s finest youth teams battling it out at Den Bosch for glory.

In the girls competitions, Münchner SC (pictured above) and Surbiton topped their respective groups with back to back wins. For the Germans, they opened up with a narrow 2-1 win against Real Club de Polo with Hannah Fix getting the vital goal.

They later added a 2-1 win against HC ’s-Hertogenbosch with Fix on the mark along with Linda Overback to advance to the semi-finals.

Polo joined them there thanks to another 2-1 result, Inez Fabregas’s goal eight minutes from the end earning the result.

In the other group, five second half goals saw Surbiton open up with a 6-0 win over Klein Zwitserland with six different scorers on the mark.

KZ bounced back with a 3-0 win over Braxgata while the Belgians came much closer in the closing group game but a single Izzy Joyce effort earned Surbiton a 1-0 result.

It means Surbiton will play Polo in the first semi-final at 10.00 CET with Münchner SC up against KZ at 11.10 CET. Den Bosch face Braxgata in the 5th/6th place playoff.

On the boys side, Pool A is headed up by HDM with Gantoise adding to their club’s EHL fortunes with the lead in Pool B.

Pool A began with Club de Campo defeating Harvestehuder THC 1-0 through Jacobo Pavon’s single goal in the 26th minute.

HDM entered the tournament with a 3-0 win against Campo with two goals from Quinten Ekkelenkamp and won the group with a 1-0 success against HTHC.

In Pool B, Gantoise won well against Austria’s Post SV 3-0 with early goals from Simon Rogge and Leon Vermeulen critical.

Old Georgians began their campaign with a 3-1 victory over Post with all their goals coming in the last 13 minutes, Nick Madath getting a pair of them.

Gantoise closed out the group stages with a 3-0 win over OGs, ensuring they top the group with a perfect record.

As such, Gantoise will meet Campo at 10.00 CET and HDM face Old Georgians at 11.10 CET.
