Real Club de Polo won the Spanish men’s Honor Division title showdown with Club de Campo 5-4 to land top spot and their place in next season’s EHL.
Until the last quarter, Campo had control of the scoreboard, building a 4-2 lead thanks to a hat-trick by Chefo Basterra and a goal by Thijs George, outdoing goals by Guillermo Fortuño and Yannick Van der Drift for Carlos García Cuenca’s team.
But in the last quarter Polo increased its effectiveness and scored three goals to take the 5-4 victory and the subsequent qualification for the EHL.
Ton Borras closed the gap in the 45th minute and – just 50 seconds later – they were level when van der Drift got his second of the game. Alex Reyné won the day in the 59th minute.
The match between the third and fourth placed team ended with Egara’s victory against RS Tenis. Ramón Sala’s team over-turned the Santander outfit’s 2-0 lead, created thanks to Javier Hernández’s double.
Bruno Ávila, Jan Clapés, Álex Broto and Pere Divorra scored the Egara goals to eventually win out 4-3.
The finals weekend will take place next week in Madrid with Polo facing first timers Tenis who will be looking to cause a shock in their playoffs debut at 2pm (CET). Campo then face Egara at 4pm on Saturday with the final at 3.30pm on Sunday.
