Hamburger Polo emphatically got the result they needed to secure the first place in EHL Men on offer in Germany as they defeated Club an der Alster 5-1.
They needed just a point from the game they eased their way to victory when Simon Quinders and Tim Brand laid the foundation shortly before halftime, and after the break, Paul Smith and Kane Russell (twice) with penalty corners extended the lead to 5-0.
Polo will next face reigning champions Crefelder HTC in the quarter-final after they won a thrilling battle with Mannheimer HC for the eighth spot, avoiding the play-down series in the process.
It means MHC will have to fight to avoid relegation, starting off against SC Frankfurt 80.
In the title challenge, UHC Hamburg will meet Rot-Weiss Köln, HTC Uhelnhorst Mülheim take on Club an der Alster while Harvestehuder HTC meet TSV Mannheim.
Krefeld’s opponent in the playoffs is the Hamburg Polo Club, who have secured their top spot in the standings
