Reigning champions Waterloo Ducks have taken the early advantage in the Belgian men’s league as the only side left standing with a 100% record after three rounds of matches.
After victories against Braxgata and, on Friday, against Uccle Sport, the Brabant side traveled for the first time this season for the top-of-the-table clash against Gantoise – the only other side who had a perfect record at that point.
In a contest shy on chances in the first half, it was Tomi Domene who opened the scoring in the 27th minute from a penalty stroke and the Argentine striker made the game safe in the 61st minute with his second of the game for 2-0.
It gives Waterloo a two point lead over Royal Léopold with Braxgata and Gantoise a further point back on six.
EHL-bound Orée are in a share of sixth place with after they played out a 1-1 draw with Léo on Friday evening. Max Branicki gave Orée the lead in the 11th minute before Tom Boon made it level at half-time.
New goalkeeper Pierre De Gratie then made some important saves in the second half to earn Orée a point.
Two days later, however, they came unstuck 2-1 against KHC Dragons with George Baker scoring the winner late on. Loris Grandchamp had given Orée a lead in the first half from a corner before the Brasschaat side fought back.
They finish their pre-EHL schedule on Sunday with an away date against Royal Racing Club de Bruxelles.
